3 Ways to Get Noticed as a Designer
Jan 25, 2021
In this post, you will learn my top 3 ways to get noticed as a graphic designer with no following and starting from zero. These strategies are how you can get boosted up in credibility and get an influx of clients fast.
1. The first way is to look on Instagram for the hashtag of your chosen niche.
So if your clients were real estate agents, it would be #realestate. Look for an industry leader who is followed by your ideal client, so in this case real estate agents. You want to find IG accounts that have a good amount of followers and a higher number of engagement (around 1-3% of their follower count that generally like their posts.) If they had 100,000 followers, the average likes of their posts should be 1000. Then you want to reach out to them through e-mail or DM telling them something you liked about their business and that you feel that you could add some great value to their audience by creating a guest post. They will then post it and tag you, allowing You to reach a whole new audience this way and start getting your name out there.
2. The second one is my favorite and that is podcasting.
Research an industry leader with a podcast in the industry you have chosen. I would find a bunch, at least 10 and listen to at least one episode from each so you can speak honestly about their show. Let them know what value you can add to their audience and the subject matter you would like to be interviewed about. Once one of them agrees, they will let you come up with the podcast interview questions. That way you can practice with your friend or partner so that when it comes time to do the podcast you will feel natural. You have to remember you are just talking to another person and not get too nervous about it. There is no better way for potential clients to get to know you than hearing your voice or seeing you in a video (if the podcast is also a YouTube video as was the case when I was on one). This has been the way I have seen a huge influx of clients with minimal amount of work.
3. The final one I will mention here is to become a guest on a blog.
This works similarly to the prior two, in that you need to find a blog that is read by your ideal clients. Then read through their blogs and see how you can fit in with their writing style. Write to them first mentioning one of the blogs that they wrote and why you enjoyed it and how you would like to add value to their audience by writing about a specific subject. Don't get intimidated about writing, it is just like having a conversation and blogs don't need to be too formal. Give a topic that addresses a pain point for your ideal client and will genuinely help that industry leader's followers and readers. This generally gets e-mailed to their list, which could be upwards of thousands of your ideal client right there.
When you find someone who has followers that already trust them and then they endorse you through letting you do a guest post, blog or be interviewed on their podcast, this gives you an automatic word-of-mouth from this industry leader and shoots you up the authority ladder real quickly.
Go out and apply these 3 tips and you will see yourself getting noticed more and more by the type of clients you want to attract. And don’t miss out on my downloadable guide to help you double your design clients: Download here
